Do you want to invest your time and your gifts in a hands-on ministry? This list shows the various activities, meeting times, and contact information for ongoing ministries of SCUMC. If something you are passionate about is not here, find friends to help you do it, and come to Pastor Dave, and let’s see how it could happen! Come and serve!
United Methodist Women – The UMW of Spring City United Methodist Church is a large and active organization that supports missions locally in Spring City and Rhea County, within the Cleveland District, the Holston Annual Conference of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, as well as globally. Our UMW has an Angel Fund for the local schools to support needs for children that are not covered in the school budget, such as socks, underwear, emergency food, etc. This group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall, and all women are invited to attend. See the UMW page for more information.
TLC – The Theresa Lisa Crafters (TLC) make prayer shawls, shawl pins, hats, and other crafts to give to those in need of God’s comfort and for life celebrations. They meet on Mondays, alternating mornings and evenings. For more information see the TLC page or call the church office at 365-6324.
Special Collections – SCUMC has two annual food collections to help feed our community, which are distributed through Our Daily Bread. On Peanut Butter Sunday every year in November, we collect hundreds of jars of peanut butter as a valuable source of protein for our Spring City residents. We also have an annual Souperbowl Sunday, where the Sunday School classes even compete to see who can donate the most soup to feed our community! Various other collections of food or supplies are available throughout the year through Holston Conference, as well as nonprofit organizations and individuals involved in local mission work.
Our Daily Bread – This valuable ministry to Spring City residents was begun through SCUMC and we continue to support it with donations of usable household and clothing items as well as volunteers. Our Daily Bread is the local contact for emergency assistance with food and utilities. Volunteers are always needed at the local mission store. If you can give a few hours a week to Our Daily Bread, please visit their location at 359 Front Street, Spring City, TN, or call 423-365-9481.
Local Missions – In addition to missions noted above, SCUMC is actively involved in supporting the residents of North Rhea County where we live. This work is carried out by groups and individuals within and outside of the congregation such as weekly singing at Spring City Care and Rehab, Toys for Children, Coats for Kids, and Kiwanis Christmas baskets.
